Privacy
Hailstory has no accounts, sets no cookies, and runs no analytics of its own. We do not store the addresses you enter.
Addresses
To find a place on the map, an address has to be turned into coordinates.
- A single address you type is sent to the US Census geocoder. If the Census geocoder finds nothing, it is sent to Photon, a geocoding service run by Komoot. Our server passes the request on and does not store it.
- Address lists you upload are sent to the US Census geocoder only, in groups of up to 200 rows, through our server. We do not store them.
- Only the address text is sent. The rest of your file is not.
Files
Address list files are read and processed in your browser. Apart from the address lookup above, your file is not uploaded. If your file has latitude and longitude columns, nothing from it is sent anywhere. Your browser downloads public data tiles for the areas you look up, and the results file is made in your browser.
Storage in your browser
We set no cookies. If you unlock Pro, a token that proves the unlock is saved in your browser’s local storage. It contains a checkout session id from Stripe and an expiry date, and is checked by our server when you use address lists.
Other services
- Cloudflare hosts this site. Like any host, it handles the technical details of each request, such as your IP address.
- OpenFreeMap provides the map tiles. It sees which map area you are viewing, because your browser requests tiles from it.
- Stripe handles payments if paid plans are turned on. Payment details go to Stripe and never to us.
